Grade 4/5
Welcome to Mr. Allen's Grade 4/5 split class! I am so excited to have such a wonderful mix of ages, levels, and interests in our classroom. I believe that a split grade opens up options for leadership, collaboration, differentiation, and beyond. On this page, you will find both grade levels broken down, a welcome handbook, along with links to each Alberta Education "Year At A Glance" and google classroom.

Literacy
Language Arts is always a great time to explore, learn, and create. The Grade 4/5 students will work with a range of books/novels, projects, assignments, and modules. We will be making everything from stories, the newspapers, to comic books. It should be a blast!

Science
The Grade 5 and 4 students will be separated into straight grades for science. Grade students will learn about chemistry, wetlands, electricity (and magnetism), and weather. Be sure to bring some safety glasses for our many experiments! Please note that Mr. Allen will lead Grade 5 instruction while Mrs. Milne will cover Grade 4

Art
As our students grow, we enable them to create and try new things. During art, Mrs. Sinden (Grade 6) and the students will experiment with abstraction, distortion, and many more fun themes!
Social Studies
The 4/5 curriculum will be a blend of concepts dealing with our Canadian (5) and Albertan (4) history. We will be focusing on our many regions, resources, tribes, and how our national/provincial identity has been formed over the years.

Music
This year, the students will practicing their ability to project, harmonize, and articulate while following steady beats and tempo. I will be teaching music to grades 4, 5, and 6 and we will be beginning lessons with the Recorder starting in the Fall. Ukulele, and Orff instruments practice will begin Spring Time.

Physical Education
Mr. Hamel will be leaading our students in our Physical Education program. It will be engaging, testing, and challening!
Mathematics
The Grade 5 and 4 students will be separated into straight grades for Math. 2 digit by 2 digit Multiplication, 3 digit by 1 digit long division, and equivalent fractions are just some of the new concepts to be practiced this term with a focus on learning our multiplication table. Please note that Mr. Allen will lead Grade 5 instruction while Mrs. Milne will cover Grade 4

Religion

This year, the students will strengthen their understanding of the 7 sacracments, the Jesse Tree, Lent, and more. This is all in preparation for the district-wide PAT at the end of the year.

French
Jem A pell, french... Our French program will have Mrs. Milne as the primary instructor. With her creative lessons and fun ideas, I'm sure it will be a popular time with the students.
